Spoonbill Pond
At the northern end of Big Talbot Island State Park, is a tidally influenced seep pond that provides abundant marine life for migratory and resident birds to feed on. From the majestic bald eagle that often sits in a large snag to small sandpipers on the mud flats, nearly any time of day the pond hosts an abundance of bird life. There is a convenient boardwalk with birdwatch stations and informational signs traverses the west side of the park; the boardwalk is part of the 6-mile Timucuan Trail that extends from Peters Point Beach Park on Amelia Island to Big Talbot Island State Park. The entrance to the boardwalk is across A1A (it’s busy so be careful!) from the Sawpit Creek boat ramp. |
